'I think this is what happens if you write a sad (let's say blues) song logically. There's an unnecessary construction that obstructs the light purposefully, but as one can hear the sound of timers ticking there's still hope for the light to be on at some point. That is the whole thing works - just maybe not for you, - a politely vague excuse to walk on and forget it, only that it's upside down and it's the work that pays no attention to the viewer. But this being an intentional arrangement it ultimately plays out as a sad song - I have things to say and show, but not for you. What things - I can only imagine, imagine how it might look like when sometime in the middle of the night after closing time, in an empty exhibition space, when no one can hear it and see: the timers coincide and click in together for a brief moment and the light turns on. This we will never see.'
Each stack of plug-timers are made with a different type of plug socket. And each individual timer is different, although sometimes similar. The flaccidly hanging light bulbs, being un-illuminated contrasts this the freshness of the plastic timers with an inadequacy.
Each plug-timer sculpture is a stack of 9 24-hour mechanical plug in timers, all set to go switch between on and off every 15 minutes. The bottom one being timing (spinning, working) all the time, the second one up only working when the first one is on. And this is repeated all the way up so the top timer is only ever working when all the timer below are working and are in the on position. So the light plugged in at the top only occasionally turns on.
There is an anticipation waiting for the light to come on. It hardly does come one, a few times every 2 days or so. So to see the light on you have to be lucky.
